When Nelly’s life was destroyed by illness, she began to write. It gave her a release from the constant pain and exhaustion of Myalgic Encephalopathy and Fibromyalgia, which she has suffered from since 2011.
With the cognitive problems associated with M.E. she keeps her characters in line with strict character bio’s, so that she doesn’t forget who they are. She often finds it strange to re-read part of a book she has written as if it were the first time she had ever read it.
“Writing saved me. It gave me a way to escape my life. My characters do not have easy lives – they struggle with the paths the Weavers of Fate throw at them. Through them, I can go anywhere and be anyone.”
Nelly lives with her son and one of her daughters in the stunning Blackdown Hills on the Devon/Somerset border. She plays the harp and the flute and enjoys turning her hand to numerous crafty things, including wood carving and wizard sculpting.
She holds a Scottish degree (with distinction) in Business Administration, specialising in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. So it is no surprise that since she wanted to have full control of her work, she set up Goblin House, her own publishing company.
